Michael Hammer and James Champy, renown authors of the best seller Reengineering the Corporation admitted in a recent interview that they were not prepared for the massive resistance found in reengineerig. The consulting firm Zenger-Miller recently conducted a study on the implementation of quality improvement. Findings wereshattering. More than 1/3 of the executives reported TQMwasfailing due to “internal employee resistance.” In a recent Fortune magazine article, Patrick Stewart indicated that, in a study of 531 major corporations, found “One of the strongest barriers to accomplishing major change is employee resistance.” Senior executives in Fortune 500 companies in a study by the American Management Association found that less than 50% of changes in their organizations were successful and that employee resistance was the main reason for failures.
